New Halaqah: Conversations in Paradise, Conversations in Hell

Bismillah.Coversations in Paradise, Conversations in Hell

Alhamdulillah, my experience with the Perished Nations halaqah was totally brilliant. Alhamdulillah, so much benefit came out of it, that in sha Allah, i’m planning to do another Halaqah series. This time, however, it’s only going to be two parts.

I’m in the process of preparing this Halaqah, so I would love to read your ideas and comments about what you would like to see in this Halaqah.

Here is why I chose this topic: In reading the Quran, the verses where Allah describes conversation amongst people of paradise/hellfire always intrigued me.  I believe that you need to learn success directly from those who were successful, so how cool is it to hear the success principles from people who entered Jannah.

And while others are decieved, how cool is it to hear the truth from those who entered hellfire, what truly led them to where they are now.

Here’s what I would like from you:

1. Quran Challenge: Quote all the verses in the Quran that are conversations in Paradise or Hell. Example:

14:22 And Satan will say when the matter is decided: “It was Allah Who gave you a promise of Truth: I too promised, but I failed in my promise to you. I had no authority over you except to call you but ye listened to me: then reproach not me, but reproach your own souls. I cannot listen to your cries, nor can ye listen to mine. I reject your former act in associating me with Allah. For wrong-doers there must be a grievous penalty.”

2. Let me know what your expectations are for this Halaqah

3. Any brilliant ideas on how to make this Halaqah that absolutely most fantastic Halaqah on the net! 🙂

Bismillah .. hit reply…

    Assalam-u-Alaikum,

I thoroughly watched, listened and enjoyed the perished nations series

Excellent idea to put the conversation of people in hell and paradise, as I am not hafiz and also do not know Arabic to understand without translation, this will probably help me go back and read those verses.

    Expectation: Your notes

Idea: Could this be broadcast live to audience through either SKYPE or PalTalk. Not sure if there is internet available, because as I was watching PerNations alone I was thinking what a feeling it might have been for people present in public/jamath

    Jazakallah khair.

    Assalaamu alaikum,

does that include conversations on yaum al Qiyamah?

وقيل للذين اتقوا ماذا أنزل ربكم قالوا خيرا (surah al Nahl verse 30)

And [when] it is said to those who had taqwa, “What did your Lord send”, they will say: “[All that is] good”

That whole page of the moshaf (p. 270) has several dialogues from both ahl al jannah and ahl al jahannam on yaum al Qiyamah.

    Assalamu Alaikum,

Jazakum Allahu khairan, I am very excited and looking forward for the upload of these halaqas inshaAllah!!!

These are the first verses that came to my mind:

    سورة الملك 8, 9, 10
    * تكاد تميّز من الغيظ كلما ألقي فيها فوجٌ سألهم خزنتها ألم يأتكم نذير* قالوا بلى قد جاءنا نذير فكذبنا وقلنا مانزّل الله من شيء إن أنتم إلا في ضلالٍ كبير * وقالوا لو كنا نسمع أونعقل ماكنا في أصحاب السعير *
    8. Almost bursting with fury: every time a group is cast therein, its keepers will ask, “Did no warner come to you?”
    9. They will say: “Yes indeed; a warner did come to us, but we rejected Him and said, ‘(Allah) never sent down any (Message): ye are nothing but an egregious delusion!'”
    10. They will further say: “Had we but listened or used Our intelligence, we should not (now) be among the companions of the Blazing Fire!”

    My expectations:

It would be cool if you can talk create a character that was travelling with the angel to paradise and then to hell so we can feel that we are truly envision it first hand. Putting a creative touch to it.

  5. Umm Zakariyah said,

    As-Salaamu alaikum waRahmatulahi waBarakatuh,
MAshaAllah an excellent idea, AlHamdulilah. I don’t think a series similar to this has been done before.

Below are some ayat taken from Umar Al Ashqar’s Book on Hellfire.

 “On the Day when some faces will be [lit up with] white and some faces will be [in the gloom of] black; to those who faces will be black [it will be said]: “Did you reject Faith after accepting it? Taste then the Penalty for rejecting Faith”. (3:106)

I know you said Quran Only, but I thought this hadeeth may be good to use inshaAllah,,
 “A man will be brought forth on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into the Fire. Then his intestines will be spilled out into the Fire, and he will be forced to walk around and around like a donkey in a treadmill. The people of Hell will gather around him and say, “O So-and-so, what is wrong with you? Did you not enjoin us to do good and forbid us to do evil?” He will say, “I used to order you to do good, but I did not do it, and I used to forbid you to do evil, but I used to do it.” Then he will walk around and around like a donkey in a treadmill” (al-Bukhaari)

 “And if anyone withdraws himself from the remembrance of [Allaah] All-Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one to be an intimate companion to him. Such evil ones really hinder them from the Path, but they think that they are being guided aright! At length, when [such a one] comes to Us, he says, [to his evil companion], “Would that between me and you were the distance of east and west”. Ah, evil is the companion indeed! When you have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day that you shall be partners in punishment”. (43:36-39)

 “…they would declare [their] repentance when they see the penalty but the judgement between them will be with justice, and no wrong will be done unto them.” (10:54)
 “And when they are cast, bound together, into a constricted place therein, they will plead for destruction there and then! This Day plead not for a single destruction: plead for destruction oft-repeated”. (25:13-14)

Their screams will grow louder and more desperate and they will call on their Rabb, hoping that He (swt) will take them out of the Fire:

 “Therein will they cry aloud [for assistance]: “Our Rabb! Bring us out, we shall work righteousness, not the [deeds] we used to do.” (35:37)

 “They will further say: “Had we but listened or used our intelligence we would not [now] be among the companions of the blazing Fire”. (67:10)

 “They will say, “Our Rabb! Twice have You made us without life and twice have you given us life! Now we have recognised our sins: Is there any way out [of this]?” (40:11)

 “They will say, “Our Rabb! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray. Our Rabb! Bring us out of this; if ever we return [to evil] then shall we be wrongdoers indeed!” He [Allaah] will say, “Be driven into it with disgrace! And speak not to Me!” (23:106-108)

 “If only you could see when the guilty ones will bend low their heads before their Rabb [saying], “Our Rabb! We have seen and we have heard; now then send us back [to the world], we will work righteousness for we do indeed [now] believe”. If We had so willed, surely We could certainly have brought every soul its true guidance, but the Word from Me will come true: I will fill Hell with jinns and men all together. Taste you then – for you forgot the Meeting of this Day of yours, and We too will forget you – taste the penalty of eternity for your [evil] deeds!” (32:12-14)

After that the people of Hell will call upon the keepers of Hell: “Pray to your Rabb to lighten us the penalty for a day [at least]! They will say,”Did there not come to you your Messengers with clear signs?” They will say,”Yes”. They will reply, “Then pray [as you like]! But the prayer of those without faith is nothing but [futile wandering] in [mazes of] error”. (40:49-50)

Then they will ask for intercession so that their Rabb might destroy them:

“And they will cry, “O Malik [Guard of Hell]! Would that your Rabb put an end to us”. He will say, “Nay, but you shall abide”” (43:77)

Everything they ask for will be refused. There will be no coming out of the Fire, no reduction in the torment, and no oblivion. Rather it is ongoing, eternal punishment, and at that time they will be told:

“…and whether you are patient of it, or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do.” (52:16)

“The Day when their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire, they will say, “Woe to us! Would that we had obeyed Allaah and obeyed the Messenger!” And they would say, “Our Rabb, verily we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones, and they misled us from the (right) Path. Our Rabb, give them double penalty and curse them with a very great curse!” (33:66-68)

  8. Umm Zakariyah said,

Verses on Jannah taken from Umar Al Ashqars Book (al-Jannah wa an-Naar
In The Light of the Qur’aan and Sunnah)

“No laghw will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech [like backbiting, etc], But only the saying of Salaam! Salaam! [greetings with peace]” [56:25]

“and some of them draw near to others, questioning, saying, “Aforetime we were afraid with our families [of the punishment of Allaah], but Allaah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. Verily, we used to invoke Him [Alone and none else] before. Verily He is Al-Barr, the All-Merciful.” [52:25-28]

“And the dwellers of Paradise will call out to the dwellers of the Fire [saying]: “We have indeed found true what our Rabb promised us; have you also found true, what your Rabb promised [warnings, etc]? They will say “Yes”. Then a crier will proclaim between them: “The Curse of Allaah is on the Dhaalimoon [wrongdoers]” [ 7:44 ]

“Verily, al-Abraar will be in delight, on thrones, looking [at all things]. You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. They will be given to drink pure sealed wine, the last thereof will be the smell of musk, and for this let [all] those strive who want to strive. It [that wine] will be mixed with Tasneem, a spring whereof drink those nearest to Allaah. Verily [during the earthly life] those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed, and whenever they passed by them, used to wink to one another [in mockery]; and when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; and when they saw them, they say, “Verily! These have indeed gone astray!” But the [disbelievers] had not been sent as watchers over them [the believers]. But this Day those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers on [high] thrones, looking [at all things]. Are not the disbelievers paid [fully] for what they used to do?” [83:22-36]

“Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. A speaker of them will say, “Verily I had a companion [in the world] who used to say, “Are you among those who believe [in resurrection after death], [that] when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed [be raised up] to receive reward or punishment [according to our deeds]?” The Man said, “Will you look down?” So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. He said, “By Allaah! You have nearly ruined me. Had it not been for the Grace of my Rabb, I would certainly have been among those brought forth [to Hell].” [Allaah (swt) informs about the true believer that he said], “Are we not then to die [any more]? Except our first death and we shall not be punished? [after we have entered Paradise ] Truly this is the supreme success! For the like of this let the workers work.” [37:50-61]

And they will say, “All praise and thanks be to Allaah, Who has removed from us [all] grief. For Our Rabb is indeed OFt-Forgiving, Most Ready to appreciate [good deeds and recompense] Who out of His Grace, has lodged us in a home that will last forever, there, toil will not touch us, nor will weariness touch us” [35:34-35]

“And they will say, “All the praises and thanks be to Allaah Who Has fulfilled His promise to us and has made us inherit [this] land. We can dwell in Paradise where we will; how excellent a reward for the [pious good] workers!” And you will see the angels surrounding the Throne [of Allaah] from all around, glorifying the praises of their Rabb. And they [all the creatures] will be judged with truth, and it will be said, “All the praises and thanks be to Allaah, the Rabb of the Aalameen” [39:74-75]

“Their prayer will be Glory to You, O Allaah! and their greeting therein will be Peace, and the conclusion of their prayer will be, “Praise be to Allaah, Lord of the Worlds” [ 10:10 ]

  9. Umm Zakariyah said,

there is one more ayah or hadeeth I’m not sure, but I don’t know its reference, it speaks about how the believers will say to Allah to put their companion in Jannah first before them since they used to encourage them to do righteousness… this verse or hadeeth would be excellent to use inshaAllah, where as the evil companions will say to Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala to throw their companion in Hellfire, as they used to order them to do evil deeds. wa Naoodhubillah.

    Was-Salamu alaikum waRahmatulahi waBarakatuh

I have one in SURAH MULK

67.8 / It seems that it will almost burst with severe fury. Whenever any group shall be thrown in it, its keepers will ask them, ‘Did no warner come to you’?

67.9/ They will say, ‘why not, yes indeed, the warner came to us, but we belied him and said, ‘Allah has sent down nothing; you are not, but in great error”.

67.10 / And they will say, ‘if we had heard or reflected, we would not have been among the fellows of the Hell.

67.11/ Now they confessed their sins, then Curse be the fellows of the Hell..

  11. Bint T. said,

Just a few that I found (sorry if they are repeated) :

    Al-Baqarah (2:167)

Those who followed will say, “If only we had another turn [at worldly life] so we could disassociate ourselves from them as they have disassociated themselves from us.” Thus will Allah show them their deeds as regrets upon them. And they are never to emerge from the Fire.

Al-Anaam (6:27) (Not in the fire but before entry, it may not count)

If you could but see when they are made to stand before the Fire and will say, “Oh, would that we could be returned [to life on earth] and not deny the signs of our Lord and be among the believers.”

    Al-Araf (7:38-39)

[ Allah ] will say, “Enter among nations which had passed on before you of jinn and mankind into the Fire.” Every time a nation enters, it will curse its sister until, when they have all overtaken one another therein, the last of them will say about the first of them “Our Lord, these had misled us, so give them a double punishment of the Fire. He will say, “For each is double, but you do not know.”

And the first of them will say to the last of them, “Then you had not any favor over us, so taste the punishment for what you used to earn.”

    Al Araf (7:43-51)

And We will have removed whatever is within their breasts of resentment, [while] flowing beneath them are rivers. And they will say, “Praise to Allah , who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth.” And they will be called, “This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do.”

And the companions of Paradise will call out to the companions of the Fire, “We have already found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?” They will say, “Yes.” Then an announcer will announce among them, “The curse of Allah shall be upon the wrongdoers.”

Who averted [people] from the way of Allah and sought to make it [seem] deviant while they were, concerning the Hereafter, disbelievers.

And between them will be a partition, and on [its] elevations are men who recognize all by their mark. And they call out to the companions of Paradise, “Peace be upon you.” They have not [yet] entered it, but they long intensely.

And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, “Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people.”

And the companions of the Elevations will call to men [within Hell] whom they recognize by their mark, saying, “Of no avail to you was your gathering and [the fact] that you were arrogant.”

[ Allah will say], “Are these the ones whom you [inhabitants of Hell] swore that Allah would never offer them mercy? Enter Paradise, [O People of the Elevations]. No fear will there be concerning you, nor will you grieve.”

And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, “Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allah has provided you.” They will say, “Indeed, Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers.”

Who took their religion as distraction and amusement and whom the worldly life deluded.” So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and for having rejected Our verses.

    Az-Zumar (39:71-75)

And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups until, when they reach it, its gates are opened and its keepers will say, “Did there not come to you messengers from yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?” They will say, “Yes, but the word of punishment has come into effect upon the disbelievers.

[To them] it will be said, “Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant.”

But those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups until, when they reach it while its gates have been opened and its keepers say, “Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide eternally therein,” [they will enter].

And they will say, “Praise to Allah , who has fulfilled for us His promise and made us inherit the earth [so] we may settle in Paradise wherever we will. And excellent is the reward of [righteous] workers.”

And you will see the angels surrounding the Throne, exalting [ Allah ] with praise of their Lord. And it will be judged between them in truth, and it will be said, “[All] praise to Allah , Lord of the worlds.”

  12. Ibnu Sa'id said,

The dwellers of Hell will call on the dwellers of Paradise: “Let some of your water, or some of GOD’s provisions to you flow towards us.” They will say, “GOD has forbidden them for the disbelievers.” (7:50)

  15. Muhammad ud-Deen said,

He will say: Enter into fire among the nations that have passed away before you from among jinn and men; whenever a nation shall enter, it shall curse its sister, until when they have all come up with one another into it; the last of them shall say with regard to the foremost of them: Our Lord! these led us astray therefore give them a double chastisement of the fire. He will say: Every one shall have double but you do not know.
And the foremost of them will say to the last of them: So you have no preference over us; therefore taste the chastisement for what you earned. Surely (as for) those who reject Our communications and turn away from them haughtily, the doors of heaven shall not be opened for them, nor shall they enter the garden until the camel pass through the eye of the needle; and thus do We reward the guilty.
They shall have a bed of hell-fire and from above them coverings (of it); and thus do We reward the unjust. And (as for) those who believe and do good We do not impose on any soul a duty except to the extent of its ability– they are the dwellers of the garden; in it they shall abide.
And We will remove whatever of ill-feeling is in their breasts; the rivers shall flow beneath them and they shall say: All praise is due to Allah Who guided us to this, and we would not have found the way had it not been that Allah had guided us; certainly the messengers of our Lord brought the truth; and it shall be cried out to them that this is the garden of which you are made heirs for what you did.
And the dwellers of the garden will call out to the inmates of the fire: Surely we have found what our Lord promised us to be true; have you too found what your Lord promised to be true? They will say: Yes. Then a crier will cry out among them that the curse of Allah is on the unjust.
Who hinder (people) from Allah’s way and seek to make it crooked, and they are disbelievers in the hereafter.
And between the two there shall be a veil, and on the most elevated places there shall be men who know all by their marks, and they shall call out to the dwellers of the garden: Peace be on you; they shall not have yet entered it, though they hope.
And when their eyes shall be turned towards the inmates of the fire, they shall say: Our Lord! place us not with the unjust.
And the dwellers of the most elevated places shall call out to men whom they will recognize by their marks saying: Of no avail were to you your amassings and your behaving haughtily:
Are these they about whom you swore that Allah will not bestow mercy on them? Enter the garden; you shall have no fear, nor shall you grieve.
And the inmates of the fire shall call out to the dwellers of the garden, saying: Pour on us some water or of that which Allah has given you. They shall say: Surely Allah has prohibited them both to the unbelievers.
Who take their religion for an idle sport and a play and this life’s world deceives them; so today We forsake them, as they neglected the meeting of this day of theirs and as they denied Our communications.

Inshallah, my expectations are to understand much more clear “Jannah and Jahanam”. I would also like to refer this halaqa to some non muslim brothers so that they could watch it and have a clear idea of islam. Therefore, I hope it will be the best halaqa ever! Ameen!

I actually discovered you for some weeks ago with the Perished Nations series and those lectures were GREEAAAAT!!! MASHALLAH!! I just can’t wait until you come out with the new halaqah series about the conversations in jennah and paradise. My expactations for these, I think they will be as great as ”Perished Nations”, with your beautiful quran recitation and awesome examples to the things mentioned and (this might be the most appreciated) the simplifications. I think if you just be relaxed and in content with yourself and just let the lecture flow as you are speaking, I think that will make it the most fantastic halaqah on the net, inshallah. May Allah be pleased with you.

    Take care.
    Your Brother Kasem.

Don’t know if this qualifies as a conversation, but I really like the verses and surah:

    25. No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.).
    26. But only the saying of: Salâm!, Salâm! (greetings with peace) !

    – Surah Al-Waqiah [56:25,26]

One of my favorit surahs, and probably my favorit part in it:

    6. And for those who disbelieve in their Lord (Allâh) is the torment of Hell, and worst indeed is that destination.
    7. When they are cast therein, they will hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath as it blazes forth.
    8. It almost bursts up with fury. Every time a group is cast therein, its keeper will ask: “Did no warner come to you?”
    9. They will say: “Yes indeed; a warner did come to us, but we belied him and said: ‘Allâh never sent down anything (of revelation), you are only in great error.'”
    10. And they will say: “Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!”
    11. Then they will confess their sin. So, away with the dwellers of the blazing Fire.

    – Surah Al-Mulk [67:6-11]

Another… might be acceptable, Insha Allah T’Ala:

    22. And those who remain patient, seeking their Lord’s Countenance, perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and spend out of that which We have bestowed on them, secretly and openly, and defend evil with good, for such there is a good end;
    23. ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which they shall enter and (also) those who acted righteously from among their fathers, and their wives, and their offspring. And angels shall enter unto them from every gate (saying):
    24. “Salâmun ‘Alaikum (peace be upon you) for that you persevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the final home!”

    – Surah Ar-Rad [13:22-24]

    2.
I want to hear all the conversations and there meanings/lessons!!! Insha Alah T’Ala.
I would also enjoy it if you recite the verses you talk about, I love your recitation, Masha Allah =)
Um… what else… Do your best Ya Sherkh, as I know you can, Ameen =)

One Day He will say “Call on those whom ye thought to be My partners” and they will call on them but they will not listen to them; and We shall make for them a place of common perdition.

    20: 125 SURAH TA-HA
He will say: “O my Lord! why hast thou raised me up blind while I had sight (before)?”

    23: 99 SURAH MU’MINOON
(In Falsehood will they be) until when death comes to one of them he says: “O my Lord! send me back (to life)

    23: 107 SURAH MU’MINOON
“Our Lord! bring us out of this: if ever we return (to evil) then shall we be wrongdoers indeed!”
    25: 17 SURAH AL-FURQAN
The Day He will gather them together as well as those whom they worship besides Allah He will ask: “Was it ye who led these my servants astray or did they stray from the Path themselves?”

    26: 91-102 SURAH ASH-SHU’ARRA
    91 “And to those straying in Evil the Fire will be placed in full view;
92 “And it shall be said to them: `Where are the (gods) ye worshipped
93 ” `Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?’
94 “Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire) they and those straying in Evil 3182
95 “And the whole hosts of Iblis together.
96 “They will say there in their mutual bickerings:
97 ” `By Allah we were truly in an error manifest 3183
    98 ” `When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds;
99 ” `And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 3184
100 ” `Now then we have none to intercede (for us)
101 ” `Nor a single friend to feel (for us).
102 ” `Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!’ ” 3

    33: 67 SURAH AL-AHZAB
And they would say: “Our Lord! we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones and they misled us as to the (right) path.

    34: 31-33 SURAH SABA
31 The Unbelievers say: “We shall neither believe in this scripture nor in (any) that (came) before it.” Couldst thou but see when the wrong-doers will be made to stand before their Lord throwing back the word (of blame) on one another! Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: “Had it not been for you we should certainly have been believers!”
32 The arrogant ones will say to those who had been despised: “Was it we who kept you back from Guidance after it reached you? Nay rather it was ye who transgressed.”

33 Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: “Nay! it was a plot (of yours)
by day and by night. Behold! ye (constantly) ordered us to be ungrateful to Allah and to
attribute equals to Him!” They will declare (their) repentance when they see the Penalty:
We shall put yokes on the necks of the Unbelievers: it would only be a requital for their (ill)
    deeds

    40: 47-48 SURAH AL-MU’MIN
47 Behold they will dispute with each other in the Fire! The weak ones (who followed) will say to those who had been arrogant “We but followed you: can ye then take (on yourselves) from us some share of the Fire?” 4420
48 Those who had been arrogant will say: “We are all in this (Fire)! Truly Allah has judged
    between (His) Servants!”

This is a good and important topic however I think there should be more detail in regards to the subject matter in terms of it being more grafic details of this event.Drawing from the sources of hadith and Qur’an and the sayings of the u’lama and bringing them to present day terms of the modern soceity.where an average joe could understand the horrific events of the hell fire and the jannah that Allah has prepare for the believers.

Yay! Another halaqah! I hope you keep doing them as lots of people cannot attend them personally.

A few verses from Surah Muddhaththir, where the People of the Right Hand question the Mujimun about why they’re in the fire…

    (39) In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, (40) About Al-Mujrimûn (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers), (And they will say to them): (41) “What has caused you to enter Hell?” (42) They will say: “We were not of those who used to offer the Salât (prayers)[] (43) “Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor); (44) “And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allâh hated) with vain talkers[] (45) “And we used to belie the Day of Recompense[] (46) “Until there came to us (the death) that is certain.” (47) So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them (48)

    Assalam alaikum wa rahmatullah,

This sounds awesome. Inshallah we’ll be bringing as many people to attend as we can.

I think it would be great if we could see all the verses references compiled together too…I know the comments here are a great starting point, but I mean in a nice document that is comprehensive and easy to read – it would be a great reference.

What about conversations between those in Jannah and those in Jahannam?

This one alway struck me, from Surah Mudaththir:
40 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another,
41 About Al-Mujrimoon (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.),
42 “What has caused you to enter Hell?”
43 They will say: “We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers)
    44 “Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor);
45 “And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers .
46 “And we used to belie the Day of Recompense
47 “Until there came to us (the death) that is certain.”

    4. Surah Maarij inal insana khuliqa haluwa izza massahu sharu jazua wa izza massahu sharu manua illalmusaleen alzina hum fi salatihim khashiun….

You can mention reasons why they enter jannah or jahannam along with the conversations: like in surah mudathir they say we didnt pray and etc and in surah maarij they mention the characteristics of the believer that they were musaleen so they are then warithun of jannah. You can touch on this slightly to emphasize the reason why they are saying such conversations is becuase they have such qualities.

You can ask the audience to think of the liqaa with Allah what will our individual conversations be?

I enjoyed the Perished Nations Lectures. I learned a lot in terms of the personalities and behaviour of the disbelivers. This helped become more aware of their tactics so that I would not be fooled and for myself to be careful in not following in their footsteps.

I truly pray to have the same feeling as Ali R.A. did about Heaven and Hell. He believed so deeply in the Al-Akhirah that he could actually see heaven in one hand and hell in the other.

May Allah guide us all to feel this way so that we become absoluted motivated to be patient, grateful, and devoted worshippers of Allah.

  27. Muslimah said,

    Assalamulaykum warhamtulahi wabarakatu.

    I have a few verses, I’m sorry if I repeated some….

    Surah Aal-E- Imran (ayah 25)

And give glad tidings to those who believe and do righteous good deeds, that for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). Every time they will be provided with a fruit therefrom, they will say: “This is what we were provided with before,” and they will be given things in resemblance (i.e. in the same form but different in taste) and they shall have therein Azwajun Mutahharatun (purified mates or wives), (having no menses, stools, urine, etc.) and they will abide therein forever.

    Surah Al-Araf (ayah 44, 46, 50)

And the dwellers of Paradise will call out to the dwellers of the Fire (saying): “We have indeed found true what our Lord had promised us; have you also found true, what your Lord promised (warnings, etc.)?” They shall say: “Yes.” Then a crier will proclaim between them: “The Curse of Allah is on the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong¬doers, etc.),”
And between them will be a barrier screen and on Al¬ A’raf (a wall with elevated places) will be men (whose good and evil deeds would be equal in scale), who would recognise all (of the Paradise and Hell people), by their marks (the dwellers of Paradise by their white faces and the dwellers of Hell by their black faces), they will call out to the dwellers of Paradise, “Salamun ‘Alaikum” (peace be on you), and at that time they (men on Al-A’raf) will not yet have entered it (Paradise), but they will hope to enter (it) with certainty.
And the dwellers of the Fire will call to the dwellers of Paradise: “Pour on us some water or anything that Allah has provided you with.” They will say: “Both (water and provision) Allah has forbidden to the disbelievers.”

    Surah Yunus (ayah 10)

Their way of request therein will be Subhanaka Allahumma (Glory to You, O Allah!) and Salam (peace, safe from each and every evil) will be their greetings therein (Paradise)! and the close of their request will be: Al-Hamdu Lillahi Rabbil-‘Alamin [All the praises and thanks are to Allah, the Lord of ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)].

    Surah Al-Furqan (ayah 22)

On the Day they will see the angels, no glad tidings will there be for the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) that day. And they (angels) will say: “All kinds of glad tidings are forbidden for you,”

    Surah Ya-Seen (ayah 26, 27)

It was said (unto him): Enter paradise. He said: “Would that my people knew, That my Lord (Allah) has forgiven me, and made me of the honoured ones!”

    Surah Az- Zumar (ayah 24)

Is he then, who will confront with his face the awful torment on the Day of Resurrection (as he who enters peacefully in Paradise)? And it will be said to the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.): “Taste what you used to earn!”

Surah Az- Zumar (ayah 73, 74)

And those who kept their duty to their Lord will be led to Paradise in groups, till, when they reach it, and its gates will be opened (before their arrival for their reception) and its keepers will say: Salamun ‘Alaikum (peace be upon you)! You have done well, so enter here to abide therein.”
And they will say: “All the praises and thanks be to Allah Who has fulfilled His Promise to us and has made us inherit (this) land. We can dwell in Paradise where we will; how excellent a reward for the (pious good) workers!”

    Surah Al- Fajr (ayah 24)

He will say: “Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!”

** Alhamdulilah what you did for the last halaqa was great. GazakaAllah khair.
Just to give a suggestion, with the new episodes you could probably take us on the path of those who went to Jannah, and use the conversations to describe how we got there and what we are going through. And then take us on another path of those who went to hell fire. (or you could do it on a single character -ex: foolana did this, and then he ended up in jannah, and he said this, and experienced this, etc….) That way, we may feel as if we actually took both paths, and experienced the results.
    — i hope you understood what i said…..its hard to explain….

*** You could also just do the same thing you did for the first series and be successful, inshaAllah. Because it was wonderful.

    Wasalamulaykum

BELOW IS A LINK TO A WEBSITE WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO PLACE A SEARCH IN QURAN, HADEETHS AND SEVERAL OTHER BOOKS. IT HAS QURAN TRANSLATION FROM YUSUFALI, SHAKIR AND PIKTHAL:

    http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/reference/searchquran.html

AND HERE IS AN IN DEPTH CONVERSATION I HAVE FOUND BETWEEN BOTH PEOPLE FROM HELL AND HEAVEN.

    AL-ARAF (THE HEIGHTS) 007.037 – 007.054

    007.037
YUSUFALI: Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His Signs? For such, their portion appointed must reach them from the Book (of decrees): until, when our messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: “Where are the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?” They will reply, “They have left us in the lurch,” And they will bear witness against themselves, that they had rejected Allah.
PICKTHAL: Who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah or denieth Our tokens. (For such) their appointed portion of the Book (of destiny) reacheth them till, when Our messengers come to gather them, they say: Where (now) is that to which ye cried beside Allah? They say: They have departed from us. And they testify against themselves that they were disbelievers.
SHAKIR: Who is then more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah or rejects His communications? (As for) those, their portion of the Book shall reach them, until when Our messengers come to them causing them to die, they shall say: Where is that which you used to call upon besides Allah? They would say: They are gone away from us; and they shall bear witness against themselves that they were unbelievers

    007.038
YUSUFALI: He will say: “Enter ye in the company of the peoples who passed away before you – men and jinns, – into the Fire.” Every time a new people enters, it curses its sister-people (that went before), until they follow each other, all into the Fire. Saith the last about the first: “Our Lord! it is these that misled us: so give them a double penalty in the Fire.” He will say: “Doubled for all” : but this ye do not understand.
PICKTHAL: He saith: Enter into the Fire among nations of the jinn and humankind who passed away before you. Every time a nation entereth, it curseth its sister (nation) till, when they have all been made to follow one another thither, the last of them saith unto the first of them: Our Lord! These led us astray, so give them double torment of the Fire. He saith: For each one there is double (torment), but ye know not.
SHAKIR: He will say: Enter into fire among the nations that have passed away before you from among jinn and men; whenever a nation shall enter, it shall curse its sister, until when they have all come up with one another into it; the last of them shall say with regard to the foremost of them: Our Lord! these led us astray therefore give them a double chastisement of the fire. He will say: Every one shall have double but you do not know.

    007.039
YUSUFALI: Then the first will say to the last: “See then! No advantage have ye over us; so taste ye of the penalty for all that ye did !”
PICKTHAL: And the first of them saith unto the last of them: Ye were no whit better than us, so taste the doom for what ye used to earn.
SHAKIR: And the foremost of them will say to the last of them: So you have no preference over us; therefore taste the chastisement for what you earned.

    007.040
YUSUFALI: To those who reject Our signs and treat them with arrogance, no opening will there be of the gates of heaven, nor will they enter the garden, until the camel can pass through the eye of the needle: Such is Our reward for those in sin.
PICKTHAL: Lo! they who deny Our revelations and scorn them, for them the gates of heaven will nor be opened not will they enter the Garden until the camel goeth through the needle’s eye. Thus do We requite the guilty.
SHAKIR: Surely (as for) those who reject Our communications and turn away from them haughtily, the doors of heaven shall not be opened for them, nor shall they enter the garden until the camel pass through the eye of the needle; and thus do We reward the guilty.

    007.041
YUSUFALI: For them there is Hell, as a couch (below) and folds and folds of covering above: such is Our requital of those who do wrong.
PICKTHAL: Theirs will be a bed of hell, and over them coverings (of hell). Thus do We requite wrong-doers.
SHAKIR: They shall have a bed of hell-fire and from above them coverings (of it); and thus do We reward the unjust.

    007.042
YUSUFALI: But those who believe and work righteousness,- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear,- they will be Companions of the Garden, therein to dwell (for ever).
PICKTHAL: But (as for) those who believe and do good works – We tax not any soul beyond its scope – Such are rightful owners of the Garden. They abide therein.
SHAKIR: And (as for) those who believe and do good We do not impose on any soul a duty except to the extent of its ability– they are the dwellers of the garden; in it they shall abide.

    007.043
YUSUFALI: And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury;- beneath them will be rivers flowing;- and they shall say: “Praise be to Allah, who hath guided us to this (felicity): never could we have found guidance, had it not been for the guidance of Allah: indeed it was the truth, that the messengers of our Lord brought unto us.” And they shall hear the cry: “Behold! the garden before you! Ye have been made its inheritors, for your deeds (of righteousness).”
PICKTHAL: And We remove whatever rancour may be in their hearts. Rivers flow beneath them. And they say: The praise to Allah, Who hath guided us to this. We could not truly have been led aright if Allah had not guided us. Verily the messengers of our Lord did bring the Truth. And it is cried unto them: This is the Garden. Ye inherit it for what ye used to do.
SHAKIR: And We will remove whatever of ill-feeling is in their breasts; the rivers shall flow beneath them and they shall say: All praise is due to Allah Who guided us to this, and we would not have found the way had it not been that Allah had guided us; certainly the messengers of our Lord brought the truth; and it shall be cried out to them that this is the garden of which you are made heirs for what you did.

    007.044
YUSUFALI: The Companions of the Garden will call out to the Companions of the Fire: “We have indeed found the promises of our Lord to us true: Have you also found Your Lord’s promises true?” They shall say, “Yes”; but a crier shall proclaim between them: “The curse of Allah is on the wrong-doers;-
PICKTHAL: And the dwellers of the Garden cry unto the dwellers of the Fire: We have found that which our Lord promised us (to be) the Truth. Have ye (too) found that which your Lord promised the Truth? They say: Yea, verily. And a crier in between them crieth: The curse of Allah is on evil-doers,
SHAKIR: And the dwellers of the garden will call out to the inmates of the fire: Surely we have found what our Lord promised us to be true; have you too found what your Lord promised to be true? They will say: Yes. Then a crier will cry out among them that the curse of Allah is on the unjust.

    007.045
YUSUFALI: “Those who would hinder (men) from the path of Allah and would seek in it something crooked: they were those who denied the Hereafter.”
PICKTHAL: Who debar (men) from the path of Allah and would have it crooked, and who are disbelievers in the Last Day.
SHAKIR: Who hinder (people) from Allah’s way and seek to make it crooked, and they are disbelievers in the hereafter.

    007.046
YUSUFALI: Between them shall be a veil, and on the heights will be men who would know every one by his marks: they will call out to the Companions of the Garden, “peace on you”: they will not have entered, but they will have an assurance (thereof).
PICKTHAL: Between them is a veil. And on the Heights are men who know them all by their marks. And they call unto the dwellers of the Garden: Peace be unto you! They enter it not although they hope (to enter).
SHAKIR: And between the two there shall be a veil, and on the most elevated places there shall be men who know all by their marks, and they shall call out to the dwellers of the garden: Peace be on you; they shall not have yet entered it, though they hope.

    007.047
YUSUFALI: When their eyes shall be turned towards the Companions of the Fire, they will say: “Our Lord! send us not to the company of the wrong-doers.”
PICKTHAL: And when their eyes are turned toward the dwellers of the Fire, they say: Our Lord! Place us not with the wrong-doing folk.
SHAKIR: And when their eyes shall be turned towards the inmates of the fire, they shall say: Our Lord! place us not with the unjust

    007.048
YUSUFALI: The men on the heights will call to certain men whom they will know from their marks, saying: “Of what profit to you were your hoards and your arrogant ways?
PICKTHAL: And the dwellers on the Heights call unto men whom they know by their marks, (saying): What did your multitude and that in which ye took your pride avail you?
SHAKIR: And the dwellers of the most elevated places shall ca!l out to men whom they will recognize by their marks saying: Of no avail were to you your amassings and your behaving haughtily:

    007.049
YUSUFALI: “Behold! are these not the men whom you swore that Allah with His Mercy would never bless? Enter ye the Garden: no fear shall be on you, nor shall ye grieve.”
PICKTHAL: Are these they of whom ye swore that Allah would not show them mercy? (Unto them it hath been said): Enter the Garden. No fear shall come upon you nor is it ye who will grieve.
SHAKIR: Are these they about whom you swore that Allah will not bestow mercy on them? Enter the garden; you shall have no fear, nor shall you grieve.

    007.050
YUSUFALI: The Companions of the Fire will call to the Companions of the Garden: “Pour down to us water or anything that Allah doth provide for your sustenance.” They will say: “Both these things hath Allah forbidden to those who rejected Him.”
PICKTHAL: And the dwellers of the Fire cry out unto the dwellers of the Garden: Pour on us some water or some wherewith Allah hath provided you. They say: Lo! Allah hath forbidden both to disbelievers (in His guidance),
SHAKIR: And the inmates of the fire shall call out to the dwellers of the garden, saying: Pour on us some water or of that which Allah has given you. They shall say: Surely Allah has prohibited them both to the unbelievers.

    007.051
YUSUFALI: “Such as took their religion to be mere amusement and play, and were deceived by the life of the world.” That day shall We forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs, and as they were wont to reject Our signs.
PICKTHAL: Who took their religion for a sport and pastime, and whom the life of the world beguiled. So this day We have forgotten them even as they forgot the meeting of this their Day and as they used to deny Our tokens.
SHAKIR: Who take their religion for an idle sport and a play and this life’s world deceives them; so today We forsake them, as they neglected the meeting of this day of theirs and as they denied Our communications.

    007.052
YUSUFALI: For We had certainly sent unto them a Book, based on knowledge, which We explained in detail,- a guide and a mercy to all who believe.
PICKTHAL: Verily We have brought them a Scripture which We expounded with knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.
SHAKIR: And certainly We have brought them a Book which We have made clear with knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.

    007.053
YUSUFALI: Do they just wait for the final fulfilment of the event? On the day the event is finally fulfilled, those who disregarded it before will say: “The messengers of our Lord did indeed bring true (tidings). Have we no intercessors now to intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back? then should we behave differently from our behaviour in the past.” In fact they will have lost their souls, and the things they invented will leave them in the lurch.
PICKTHAL: Await they aught save the fulfilment thereof? On the day when the fulfilment thereof cometh, those who were before forgetful thereof will say: The messengers of our Lord did bring the Truth! Have we any intercessors, that they may intercede for us? Or can we be returned (to life on earth), that we may act otherwise than we used to act? They have lost their souls, and that which they devised hath failed them.
SHAKIR: Do they wait for aught but its final sequel? On the day when its final sequel comes about, those who neglected it before will say: Indeed the messengers of our Lord brought the truth; are there for us then any intercessors so that they should intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back so that we should do (deeds) other than those which we did? Indeed they have lost their souls and that which they forged has gone away from them.

    007.054
YUSUFALI: Your Guardian-Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): He draweth the night as a veil o’er the day, each seeking the other in rapid succession: He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under His command. Is it not His to create and to govern? Blessed be Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!
PICKTHAL: Lo! your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then mounted He the Throne. He covereth the night with the day, which is in haste to follow it, and hath made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient by His command. His verily is all creation and commandment. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!
SHAKIR: Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, and He is firm in power; He throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly; and (He created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by His command; surely His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

Asalamu Alaykum, I listened to the perished nations series and it changed my life completely Alhamdulillah, may Allah(swt) reward you Sheikh Muhammad!

And now i really can’t wait to listen to this series i have been waiting for a lecture like this for a while now so inshallah it will be enlightening just as your last one was.

The Suras and verses that came to my mind right away for the conversations in hell:

    SURAT FURQAN: 27-30

    27. And (remember) the Day when the Zalim (wrong-doer, oppressor, polytheist, etc.) will bite at his hands, he will say: “Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger ( Muhammad ).

    28. “Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend!

    29. “He indeed led me astray from the Reminder (this Qur’an) after it had come to me. And Shaitan (Satan) is ever a deserter to man in the hour of need.”

    30. And the Messenger (Muhammad ) will say: “O my Lord! Verily, my people deserted this Qur’an (neither listened to it, nor acted on its laws and orders).

    SURAT QAF: 21-30

    21. And every person will come forth along with an (angel) to drive (him), and an (angel) to bear witness.

    22. (It will be said to the sinners): “Indeed you were heedless of this, now We have removed your covering, and sharp is your sight this Day!”

    23. And his companion (angel) will say: “Here is (this Record) ready with me!”

    24. (And it will be said): “Both of you throw (Order from Allah to the two angels) into Hell, every stubborn disbeliever (in the Oneness of Allah, in His Messengers, etc.).

    25. “Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter,

    26. “Who set up another ilah (god) with Allah, then (both of you) cast him in the severe torment.”

    27. His companion (Satan devil)] will say: “Our Lord! I did not push him to transgress, (in disbelief, oppression, and evil deeds) but he was himself in error far astray.”

    28. Allah will say: “Dispute not in front of Me, I had already, in advance, sent you the threat.

    29. The Sentence that comes from Me cannot be changed, and I am not unjust (to the least) to the slaves.”

    30. On the Day when We will say to Hell: “Are you filled?” It will say: “Are there any more (to come)?”
